This training introduces supervisors to using the Employee Assistance Programme of Bermuda as a management tool. It instructs participants in the importance of early intervention, and the process of referring employees with job performance and/or personal problems.

The Mindful Employer Certification (MEC) Program is an initiative that seeks to challenge, highlight, and cultivate company cultures that put mental health as a workplace priority. The Mindful Employer Certification ensures that employers are in compliance with existing legislation while challenging them to develop, implement, or enhance sound policies and practices around mental health.

Communication style is crucial for leaders as it significantly influences their effectiveness in conveying ideas, building relationships, and inspiring and motivating their teams. A leader's communication style sets the tone for organizational culture, establishes trust, facilitates collaboration, and enhances overall productivity. By honing their communication style, leaders can foster understanding, inspire confidence, and create an environment that promotes open dialogue and successful outcomes for individual and high value creating teams.

Many capable, high-performing professionals avoid difficult conversations not because they lack competence, but because they want to maintain harmony, protect relationships or avoid emotional discomfort. Over time, this avoidance creates frustration, misalignment, reduced trust and performance challenges. This highly practical 45-minute virtual workshop equips employees with simple frameworks, language and confidence to approach challenging conversations with clarity, professionalism and respect without escalating tension or damaging relationships. Participants will learn how to: reframe conflict as a professional skill rather than a personal risk, prepare for difficult conversations with confidence and intention, use practical scripts to communicate clearly and calmly, and reduce anxiety before, during, and after challenging discussions.

All of this has had an impact on our mental health, and contributed to the increase in incidents of depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. Whether this has impacted the professional arena with co-workers or the personal arena of family and friends, it is critical to know how to effectively support people in crisis. This class will cover common causes of mental health issues, mitigating factors, Bermudian mental health laws and local resources for help.

This session offers an overview of the Commission’s Disability Inclusion Report, “Nothing About Us, Without Us”, Disability Inclusion in Bermuda: Findings and Recommendations From a National Consultation. The session will include an overview of the publicly driven recommendations, along with some practical steps for building a disability-inclusive workplace. Participants will leave with clear, actionable strategies to move from awareness to meaningful inclusion.

The conversation around psychological health and safety extends beyond mental health alone. In a psychologically safe work environment, employees feel safe to be their authentic selves, and voice their opinions, thoughts or ideas without fear of rejection or reprisal. Employees are also more likely to take appropriate risks, ask a team member for help and discuss challenges as they arise. Bullying and sexual harassment occurs in all sectors of the workforce and is often under-reported. It has a profound impact on the target, witnesses, and the organizational culture. It impacts on the emotional wellbeing of staff and can lead to a toxic work environment if action is not taken to correct these behaviours. Topics covered will include: institutional bullying, addressing complaints, responsibility of managers and supervisors, and how management and employees can intervene to assist targets.

Topics covered include diversity and inclusion, office gossip, effective communication, and bullying/humiliation in the workplace. We will discuss practical solutions for employees to recognize, confront, and work through negative or destructive workplace behaviors.
